Illuminate Your World: How the Right Lighting Can Transform Darkness into Opportunity

When you’re out in the middle of an adventure race, the dark feels different. Trails you know well suddenly seem unfamiliar. The quiet gets deeper. And yet, with the right light, the dark shifts from intimidating to exhilarating.
That’s where Fenix comes in. Their headlamps and bike lights have become a staple for us—not just because they’re bright, but because they’re dependable. In the middle of a long race, that reliability is worth more than a few lumens on paper.
Headlamps We Trust
For running, trekking, or just navigating transition zones, a good headlamp is non-negotiable. We’ve used a few in the Fenix range and what we like most is how they balance comfort with power. Some headlamps are either too bulky or not bright enough, but Fenix seems to hit that sweet spot.
Lightweight models like the HM50R are perfect for those fast sections where every gram matters.
For longer treks, the HM65R-T V2.0 is one we reach for—it combines spot and flood beams, which is a fancy way of saying you can see both the trail right in front of you and what’s coming up ahead.
The best part? They’re built tough. Rain, mud, awkward falls—they’ve held up through it all.
On the Bike
Then there’s biking in the dark. If you’ve ever flown down a trail at night with just a weak beam, you know how sketchy that can feel. With the Fenix bike lights, we’ve been able to ride more confidently.

The BC22R has been a favourite—it’s bright, mounts quickly, and lasts long enough that we don’t worry about it dying halfway through. For more technical rides, we’ve also appreciated lights with a dual-beam setup such as the BC30 V2, since being able to see near and far at the same time makes a huge difference.
Why It Matters
In adventure racing, the little things add up. Reliable lights mean less stress, smoother navigation, and, honestly, more enjoyment when the race stretches into the night (and across several nights!). Instead of fighting the dark, we get to experience it—moving through it as if it’s just another part of the challenge. Also...want to know what keeps you awake when you are tired? Lumens!! And Fenix packs many of them!
So no, we don’t have superpowers. But with the right gear—like Fenix lights—we’ve found that racing at night feels a little bit magical.
