Relentless 24 Postponed: What You Need to Know

We’ve made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s Relentless 24, originally scheduled for June 21–22, 2025. While this isn’t the news we hoped to share, we want to be transparent about the reasons and what comes next.
Why Postpone?
The Canmore Nordic Centre, our event venue, could be impacted by labour action involving staff represented by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE). Recently, more than 23,000 civil servants across Alberta, including those working at the Nordic Centre, voted 90% in favour of authorizing strike action.
This strike could be called with as little as 72 hours’ notice, per Alberta labour law. That short timeframe creates significant challenges, especially for an event like Relentless 24, which depends on:
Venue facilities and personnel
Medical and safety support, including trail evacuation and Karelian Bear Dog teams
Logistics coordination for participants – many of whom are travel long distances to race
Moving ahead under these conditions would mean risking a last-minute cancellation, putting participant experience, safety, and financial commitments at stake.
What This Means
Postponing now allows us to avoid forcing a last-minute cancellation and gives us the opportunity to plan responsibly and deliver the experience our community expects and deserves.
We’re currently exploring two possibilities:
Rescheduling at the Canmore Nordic Centre once the labour situation is resolved – potentially as early as fall 2025, or into 2026
Relocating the event to a new venue (pending permitting), which could also happen as early as this fall or next season
Currently registration for the Relentless 24 is paused and emails have been sent to registered participants. All existing registrations will be honoured at the rescheduled event. Once a new plan is confirmed, we’ll provide all the details, as well as support options for those who may not be able to attend.
A Personal Note
Relentless 24 – and all Rocky Mountain Adventure Racing events – are funded through personal investment and the trust of our participants. Decisions like this are never easy, but we believe it’s the right one. We’re committed to creating a safe, memorable, and well-supported experience, and we appreciate your patience as we navigate these circumstances.
Stay tuned – we’ll share updates as soon as we have more information. In the meantime, thank you for being part of this incredible community.
– The RMAR Team
